Essential Research receives State of Ohio Third Frontier Subcontract Cleveland, OH (November 3, 2005) … C. William King, Essential Research President and CEO, today announced the award of a $80,000 subcontract from the University of Dayton to develop quantum well infrared photodetector (QWIP) epiwafer structures. This is part of a larger grant awarded to the University of Dayton to develop the entire manufacturing process for these devices. Corrugated quantum-well infrared photodetector (C-QWIP) focal plane arrays are sensitive, high-resolution thermal imaging devices. They are suitable for a wide range of conventional military, scientific, and commercial applications. New detector architectures developed under this grant are expected to greatly improve the quantum-well infrared technology. Quantum-well infrared detectors are good for imaging in the mid- and long-wavelength ranges. A customer has already been identified and is part of this development process.
